Neuropsychological Services provides comprehensive consultation, evaluation and intervention services via a holistic view of the individual. For the Geriatric patient Neuropsychological Services can provide information of the strengths and weaknesses in a person's cognitive abilities and emotional state. Assessment can determine degrees of dementia and identify potential red flags.

Step #1: “Identify the problem behavior”

  • Development of charting that includes the ABC’s of behavior including

  • A = antecedents,

  • B = behaviors (operationally defined)

  • C = consequences or outcomes

Step #2: “Identify or rule out medical and environmental causes
and psychosocial stressors”

  • Complete comprehensive neuro (biological) psychological
    (environmental/social) evaluation

Step #3: Demonstrated failure of medical and environmental solutions.

  • Develop behavioral/environmental intervention

  • Monitor effectiveness of behavioral/environmental intervention via serial assessments

  • Compare pre- vs. post-intervention findings to demonstrate level of effectiveness

Step #4: Differential diagnostic process:

  • Mood Disorder vs.

  • Dementia vs.

  • nsomnia vs.

  • Dementia with Agitation

  • Other “treatable” Dementia

  • Complete comprehensive evaluations that address neuro (brain-related) vs. psychological (social/environmental) contributions to symptoms
